pdfFactory : Alternative PDF Software

While Adobe PDF format has become almost synomymous with electronic paper, and while it seems like Adobe invented PDF, that isn?t the case. Adobe merely made PDF widespread. In this review, we?re going to take a look pdfFactory. It?s implementation is very different from Adobe?s and it may be a program which may make you switch to a less expensive solution which is compatible with Adobe?s PDF format.
Like Adobe Acrobat, pdfFactory is based on Postscript. Because of this, it is possible to create documents that are easily interchangeable. Because Adobe Acrobat Reader is so ubiquitous in the market, pdfFactory is only available for creating new PDF file.

When making PDF files, there?s nothing better and simpler than pdfFactory. Like Acrobat, pdfFactory installs itself as a printer driver. This allows you to select pdfFactory just like any other printers during output.

When the job is sent to the pdfFactory printer, pdfFactory opens up a new window which let?s you add more pages from different sources thanks to its concatenation feature. In addition, you can set the security features (by using the PRO version) which locks up the format to prevent anyone from simply using the copy and paste feature. Other reasons for adding security include preventing others from copying your images, printing, opening without a password, and especially, preventing editing. Like Acrobat, pdfFactory will embed any fonts but the difference is that you selectively remove the fonts that you don?t want or want. It?s pretty much up to you. But the embedding is turned off by default.

When you?re previewing, you can zoom your in at up to 400-percent, without saving the file first. In the same manner that you can add pages, you can also remove pages. This is especially useful when you want to create a concise document that doesn?t distract the reader from reading extraneous information.

To tie everything into one simple package, all features described can be navigated to and from using the tabs located at the top of the user interface.

Conclusion

The biggest reason to use PDF is that you can easily transport information and format easily between operating systems and computers. After all, presentation is king when it comes to projecting the image of your thoughts and your company.

The biggest disadvantage to Adobe Acrobat is the fact that it?s very expensive. pdfFactory aims to change this by offering two versions: pdfFactory sells for $49.95 while the Professional version is available for a more $99.95; drastically lower than Adobe Acrobat.

There?s a slew of added functionality that are harder to access because the user interface in Acrobat isn?t as well thought out as pdfFactory. In our opinion, pdfFactory?s interface is functional while Acrobat?s is aimed towards funky and good looks. And, of course, pdfFactory isn?t the only PDF solution available on the market today but it is by far one of the best we tested.
